Michelle Johnson
Michelle Johnson has her BS in Elementary Education and is currently in her 30th year of teaching. She taught for 20 years in a Catholic school but is now in her 10th year at Andover eCademy, a blended virtual school in Andover, KS. She has taught 4th grade primarily, in addition to being an Enrichment Facilitator and teaching for a few years at both 2nd and 3rd grade. She is currently the Intervention Specialist where she provides in-house or online intervention and enrichment opportunities to K-6 students in both Language Arts and Mathematics.
Michelle became Orton Gillingham certified as an Alphabetic Phonics tutor in 2016. Since then she has been working as an Alphabetic Phonics tutor and has taught several years of summer school at the Fundamental Learning Center in addition to her school district. The Alphabetic Phonics program is multisensory based and structured around the Orton-Gillingham approach. Through her school district, she has also received extensive training in both the Pathways and Phonics Lesson Library curriculums. These are also multisensory approaches to assist students in building a strong foundation of Phonemic Awareness in order to develop independent decoding skills.
In addition to her literacy training and certifications, Michelle has a lot to offer the Literacy Tree Program due to her experiences as a virtual school teacher. She has 10 years of experience with teaching over Zoom. Through those experiences, she's worked very closely with her students and families, developing a rapport, and communicating with them on a very regular basis.
